Week 31  April 14, 2014

Topic(s): Film Making Process - Sound and Sound Effects.

Time: 8 to 10 days

Objective: Students will understand how to apply their knowledge of music creation and iMovie to create profession looking and sounding films.

Bell Ringer: Open Garage Band and iMovie and edit current projects.

Direct Instruction: Garage Band: The basics of making tracks, presets, how to import into iMovie and iTunes. How to adjust volume in iMovie and GarageBand.


Why is a soundtrack important?

What is good about using professional music?

What is bad about using professional music in your films?


Assignment(s):

Wednesday - Friday ---Create a DEMO Reel of all your films from the past semester up till now in iMovie. Create a soundtrack for this demo-reel in GarageBand and insert into your film. Use special themes, sound effects and other features to make your films professional. If you lost your films - use a flash drive and share films with your group or partner or shoot some film quickly and create a soundtrack.

1. Assignment: Student's are to create films that use some sort of special effect. This can be a green screen, chroma key images, iMovie special effect, "old school" special effect or some type of film effect that either should not or cannot happen in the real world.

If you are not able to complete a film this week. A second script and storyboard will replace a zero grade in the book.

Monday - Tuesday  - Watch completed films.

Create a short subject film. Any school appropriate topic. 1 to 5 minutes.

This will be part of your final BUT you will not be able to film outside of class on the day of the final.

Students are to make a list of the top 20 influential films of all time. The list should be numbered and in complete sentences. Each entry on the list should include the title of the film and at least one reason why the film is so great.


Example:

1. Citizen Kane – This film used many excellent modern film techniques such as use of the subjective camera, elaborate camera movements, and over-lapping dialogue.

Use Internet to search for movies and titles. No copy and paste put this in your own words. DO THIS WORK IN PAGES.

Assignment(s):

Students are working on their  short film project.  They can go to my website for more details. Most should already know what to do at this point. They need to be filming with toys and other objects. Some can work in the hallway so it is not too noisey or busy in my room BUT nobody should go very far.

AND

My advanced film students are in the process of creating the a storyboard and script for their first short film they want to create. Some may be scripting out the films others may be working on assignments from other classes.

Thursday - Film day. Watch industry standard films in the realm of cinema and animation.

Week 3 - September 3, 2013

Bell Ringer: Open computer each day and make sure software is installed and working.

Monday - Tuesday -  Finish working on pre-planning our first short film with storyboards and other resources. Bring toys in from home!!!

Wednesday - Turn in storyboards for a grade.


If the network is working we will setup and install software - Cinema 4d, GarageBand, iMovie, Photoshop.

Tuesday - Thursday - start shooting short "toy" films.


Friday - Film day. Watch industry standard films in the realm of cinema and animation.

Week 2 - August 26, 2013

Bell Ringer: Open computer each day and make sure software is installed and working.

Monday - Wednesday Finish Computer Rollout. Do software update from Self Service. The Adobe Creative Suite.

Set up Doc with software - Cinema 4d, GarageBand, iMovie, Photoshop.

Thursday - Work in Photoshop and other software.

Friday - Film day.

Monday - We are going over classroom rules and course content.
