Reasons to invest in a graphing calculator for Math & Science based on research findings (Source)

PVHS teacher recommend TI Nspire, TI 84, or other comparable models. TI-30XS is a scientific calculator.
A well cared for calculator will last through high school and college.

  • When teachers incorporate graphing calculators into curriculum more often, and when students have more access to graphing calculators, math achievement increases.
  • Students who receive instruction using graphing calculators perform as well or significantly better on key math skills. Students using graphing calculators during class instruction did as well or better on conceptual, problem solving and operational math skills than those who did not use graphing calculators.
  • Students who use graphing calculators have significantly better attitudes toward math than those who do not use graphing calculators.
  • The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) found that students in grades 8 to 12 had a higher NAEP score when they used graphing calculators.
