National Merit Semifinalists


Congratulations to Katherine Broten ’19 and  Corbyn Foster ’19 for being selected as New Mexico Semifinalists in the not-for-profit National Merit Scholarship program.

Approximately 1.6 million juniors in about 22,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

The pool of semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

CHICAGO (May 29, 2018) — In its 33rd year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, today announced Chase Silseth of Piedra Vista High School as its 2017-18 Gatorade New Mexico Baseball Player of the Year. Silseth is the second Gatorade New Mexico Baseball Player of the Year to be chosen from Piedra Vista High School (Shilo McCall '12)

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Silseth as New Mexico’s best high school baseball player.

Excellence on the Mat

At the 2018 NMAA Wrestling Championships, Wes Rayburn '18 captured his fourth consecutive state wrestling championship at 138lbs. Not to be outdone, Nick Rino '18 also earned his fourth individual state wrestling title at 142lbs. Both senior wrestlers finished their seasons unbeaten.

Congratulations to Trennery Turner ’18

for being selected as a New Mexico Prudential Spirit of the Community Award recipient.  This program is the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. 

Created in 1995 by Prudential and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the program honors middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others. State Honorees receive all-expense-paid trips to the program’s national recognition events in Washington DC.

A huge THANK YOU to all the HEROes of the fall blood drive sponsored by the National Honor Society.  We were able to reach our PVHS goal of donating 48 units of blood through United Blood Services.  We had 58 participants overall and it was a big success!

Three PVHS  seniors were selected as National Hispanic Scholars. Congratulations to Livia Hensley '17, Jaidan Jaramillo '17 and Grace Sartin '17 for being selected by the College Board for the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP). The invitation for the program is extended to students who score in the top 2.5% among Hispanic and Latino PSAT/NMSQT test takers.
